In 1987 he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party having served in various capacities in ABVP- State Secretary, State President of BJP Yuva Morcha followed by General Secretary & National Secretary. In 1995 he became National Secretary of the BJP. 1996 was a turning point in his political career.
