Shri Ananth Kumar is a member of Parliament and National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is the member of 15th Lok Sabha representing the Bangalore South constituency of Karnataka and the quoted ‘foundation stones’ have kept his success intact since the 10th Lok Sabha.

He is the Union Cabinet Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Chemicals and Fertilizers.

As an important office bearer of the ABVP, he became one of the most popular and influential student's union leader in Karnataka.

He demonstrated against the then Indira Gandhi government’s imposition of emergency and in the ensuing scenario was incarcerated. This reminds one of Mark Twain’s words: ‘Loyalty to the country always. Loyalty to the Government when it deserves it.

Shri Ananth Kumar highlighted his organizational skills by serving various positions ABVP like the State Secretary and later National Secretary in 1985. In 1987 he decided to walk in the bigger ground of politics by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. His first important role was when he was nominated as the State President of BJP Yuva Morcha.

In 1995 he was appointed as the National Secretary. He was first time elected to Lok Sabha in 1996 from Bangalore South constituency. He was a member of various committees coming under ministry of railways and industry.

In 1998 he was inducted into the Union Cabinet headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee as the Minister for Civil Aviation where signed the MoU for KIAL. It was due to this MoU that the project came into existence. In 1999, he became one of the most important Cabinet ministers in the NDA government handling various ministries including Tourism, Sports & Youth Affairs, Culture, Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation.

AnanthKumar is married to Tejaswini; they have two daughters Aishwarya and Vijetha.

Belief in nationalism also means pride in one’s own culture and AnanthKumar exhibited this when he earned the distinction as the first person to speak in Kannada in the United Nations.

AnanthKumar is loved by the people of Bangalore South for his genuine actions and profound dedication for the betterment of the constituency. He has spent time and effort to make Bangalore a model city. By representing the voice of the common people in Bangalore and Karnataka, he has earned himself the distinction of the being the default voice of Karnataka and Bangalore in Parliament.

In short, Shri Ananth Kumar is the ideal follower of the following Shloka:
"karmanyeva adhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachana ma karma phala hetu bhurba te sangostav karmani"
