The winning spree
Peoples support for BJP and winning spree continues
BJP was traditionally known to be a north Indian Party. For BJP, which was ruling at the centre, the opening of an account in South India was critical and important. Ananthkumar’s Karnataka was the most potential state to establish its base in the south. This was an uphill task and AnanthKumar was chosen to spearhead this mission.
As an ardent follower of the BJP principles, AnanthKumar volunteered to resign in 2003, from his high Profile role as Minister for Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation with additional charge as Minister for Rural development, Govt. of India, following the philosophy of ‘one man – one post’. This was the major boost to strengthen the BJP arm of Karnataka.
He took charge as the BJP president for Karnataka state and from then on there was no looking back. BJP has grown from strength to strength.
With single minded determination of 10 months of relentless travel, coupled with a strategy unique to AnanthKumar, he brought an unprecedented victory to the BJP. In 2004 elections, BJP became the single largest party in Karnataka overthrowing Shri. S M Krishna’s Congress Government.
Although the mandate was for the BJP, the Congress managed to cling to power with an unholy alliance with JDS. The Congress-JDS alliance was without people’s mandate and therefore could not survive for long. This resulted in, BJP having to share power with JD(s) to avoid untimely elections. However the JD(S) betrayed BJP after enjoying power for 20 months. BJP decided to go to the people.
In 2004, he became the National General Secretary for BJP and was made in-charge of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. His winning strategies paved the way for the victory of the BJP in these two states. These were the first ever BJP Governments in the two states.
In 2008, assembly elections of Karnataka, AnanthKumar with his usual will and strategy, from the selection of candidates to poll strategy, ensured a clear victory for the BJP in Karnataka. For the first time, highest number of MLA’s from Bangalore, contributed to the success of the BJP in the state.
The long standing dream of Shri. Atalji and Shri. Advaniji was thus fulfilled. AnanthKumar played a pivotal role in establishing the first ever BJP Government in South India. His rich experience in handling crucial portfolios in the Government of India came in handy for creating the road map for good governance in Karnataka.
After the historic victory in 2008 in Karnataka, the fourth feather in AnathKumar’s cap was the campaign which led to the triumphant victory of BJP in Madhya Pradesh. His aptitude for hard work, organizational skills and above all his excellent rapport with party cadre make him a leader par excellence. The credit of flying the BJP flag across four states goes to AnanthKumar, the dynamic MP of the people of Bangalore South. The long standing motivation and support of the people of Bangalore has been a huge motivating factor in these historic victories and they continue to stand by him supporting all his nation building efforts.
