Urban Development & Poverty alleviation

Since Bangalore South is an Urban constituency, the responsibility of Minister of Urban Development was an important one for Shri Ananthkumar. As minister for Urban development and Poverty alleviation he introduced significant measures. Even today his experience as Urban Development Minister is guiding the development of Bengaluru under his Vice Chairmanship of Abide.

• VAMBAY [Valmiki Ambedkar Awaz Yojana] where 51 lakh houses were sanctioned throughout India for the poor.
• Instrumental in convincing the center to raise the level of Almatti dam, thereby irrigating an additional 150 thousand acres.
• Record in getting the Golden Quadrilateral sanctioned which saw over 700 Kms of road through Karnataka getting upgraded.
• Delhi metro was a landmark development in the history of Indian urban development. Built in record time it adheres to international standards.
• Land allotted to several social & cultural organizations, Karnatak Bhavan in Delhi among others.
• In order to help physically challenged citizens, the bylaws of unified building rules were modified, to facilitate easy movement.
• As a tribute to the martyrs of the police force, a magnificent structure was sanctioned on the first anniversary of the attack on Parliament house, where glowing tributes were made to the police personnel who laid down their lives while protecting Indian sovereignty.
• Building technology assistance was provided to various states by organizing exhibitions on cost effective & innovative building materials and technologies.
