At the Adamya Chetana Utsava in Dec 2015, I gave a call for the Green Bengaluru 1:1 initiative. The ratio of trees to people in the Bengaluru of 30 years ago was 1:1. Today, the ratio is very skewed at 1:7. A 2014 survey of Bengaluru’s green cover recorded 14,78,412 trees (using a combination of remote sensing data, topographic maps and GPS-based field surveys). Bengaluru’s population is about 100 lakh people now. If the city has to absorb the growing volume of carbon dioxide from the vehicles, people & industry – the ratio should be 1:1.

Green Bengaluru 1:1 is an effort to plant 1 crore trees by regularly scheduling planting drives and distributing saplings. So far, Adamya Chetana has planted 15,000 saplings and distributed 85,000 saplings.Adamya Chetana has held a weekly planting drive on every Sunday in 2016 (Green Sunday or Hasiru Bhanuvara).

Participated in the 41st consecutive Green Sunday (“Hasiru Bhanuvara”) at HSR layout. Noted environmentalist Shri Yellappa Reddy, BBMP Corporator Shri Gurumurthy Reddy, Ex-Director NIMHANS Dr. Satish Chandra, HSR Federation Secretary Dr. Ravindran, Green Bengaluru 1:1 volunteers and local volunteers from HSR Layout participated with enthusiasm.
