11 October 1902:Anti-corruption crusader JP is born in Sitabdiara, Bihar

Of the people who have inspired me the most, LoknayakJaya Prakash Narayan (JP) stands at the helm. It was his call to the youth in the 1970s against the emergency that led me to take the plunge into constructive politics. At the age of 16, I was jailed for my role in the protest against the emergency called by then PM Indira Gandhi. For 40 days, I remained in prison…I came out not defeated by the ordeal but with newfound zeal to serve the country. That was the power of JPs struggle, the man who made possible the first non-congress government in the country.

JP was a man of his words; he inspired lakhs of young people to fight against the injustices of the Congress party. His ideology of non-violence was firm and his resolve to bring peace was extraordinary. When he called for ‘SampoornaKranti’ or Total Revolution, to free the country from the clutches of the emergency, he began a movement like never before.

“You have accused the Opposition and me of every kind of villainy. But let me assure you that if you do the right things you will receive the willing cooperation of every one of us. For that you need not destroy democracy. The ball is in your court. It is for you to decide.”– JP in a letter to Indira Gandhi during the emergency.

11 October 2011: Jan ChetnaYatra by LK Advani flagged off from Sitabdiara.

On 11th October 2011, Advaniji went on a 40 day Yatra with the sole intention of fighting against corruption and bringing back black money that has been stashed abroad. This historic Yatramobilized public opinion against corruption of present government and put BJP agenda of good governance and clean politics before the people. The Yatra commenced on LoknayakJayprakash Narayan’s birth anniversary and from his birthplace Sitabdiara (Bihar). During the emergency LoknayakJayprakash Narayan had launched a similar nationwide agitation against corruption of the then Congress government and had given a call for “Total Revolution”.If in the year 1973 LoknayakJayprakaashNaryan had given the slogan of  ‘Total Revolution’, then through this YatraBharatiyaJanata Party engaged in creating ‘Jan Chetna’(Public awareness) for comprehensive reforms in democracy.

”I am formally launching my Jan ChetnaYatra against corruption and for bringing back black money stashed away abroad,” Advani said at a public meeting at the starting point of the yatra. Advaniji had said the inspiration for this Yatra had come from the work carried out by Jayprakash Narayan. As Jan ChetnaYatra Convener, I recollect speaking on the occasion “After JP, this is the second ‘SampoornaKranti’ (Total Revolution) being spearheaded by Advaniji to free the country from corruption and ensure that the 21st century would be the centenary of India.”

The success of thisYatra was apparent in the huge response it received across the country. Not just that, this was a unique movement, which incorporated new media and technology to reach out to the public.

11 October 2013: The struggle against corrupt Congress party continues from Sitabdiara.

Every year, I visit Sitabdiara to pay my homage to the revolutionary leaderLoknayak Jayaprakash Narayan. This is year is an important one….

For the past 9 years, the UPA Government has been stooped in corruption and has had a deficit in governance. While during the 1970s, the same Congress Party declared an open war against democracy; today they have created an underground war against the nation. 2G Scam, CWG Scam, CoalGate are just the tips of the iceberg of malpractice and draft done by the present day UPA Government.

The BharatiyaJananta Party has been fighting against the corrupt rule of theCongress party. We are at the verge of winning our fight. With the election year round the corner, the public mood is resonating with the need for change. With the able leadership of Shri. Narendra Modiji and convictionof the Karyakartas…the BharatiyaJanata Party will reach a majority victory of 272+ in the next Lok Sabha elections. The blessings and ideas of JP, and the hard work and perseverance of Advaniji are what have got us here today.

Congress Mukth Bharat Nirman is what we need!!
