Education Being a bibliophile himself, Shri Ananth Kumar has initiated reading rooms in slums, and distributed thousands of books through ‘Pustaka Parishe’. Almost all the Kannada medium government schools in the Bangalore south constituency (which numbers to more than 200) are supported by his MPLAD fund. Through his MPLAD fund, Shri AnanthKumar has funded 48 projects between 2009 and 2013. This includes the construction of classrooms in Government schools and hostel building in colleges as well as providing drinking water, and computers. Was on the Governing council of IISc for several years. Has been instrumental in the setting up of ‘Free text book Lending Libraries’ in colleges. Shri Ananth Kumar has been instrumental in supporting projects to conduct free tutorials in ‘Science, Maths & English’– for students of 9th & 10th standard from many Government Kannada medium schools in Yediyur, Madivala, Attiguppe, Bommanahalli, and Basavanagudi. Initiated a year-long pilot programme at Sarakki (J P nagar) school consisting of initiatives such as – water conservation initiative (RWH, Recycling), energy saving methods, tree plantation, teachers & student training, involvement of students & teachers throughout the year with support from volunteers. Through – Aata-Paatha – he has employed innovative non-formal methods of education covering over 40,000 schoolchildren from more than 200 Government schools in Bangalore. Organized to train 3000 children from 12 schools on waste management & environment protection. Shri Ananth Kumar has been involved in distributing as well as conducting discussions on the ‘Maridumbi’ magazine published by Karnataka State Pollution control board at over 300 schools. Has given support to several special schools – through infrastructure development, athletic and cultural programme. Recipient schools include – Anatha Shishu Vihar, Heart & Soul, Manonandana, Nele, Vasavi Trust, Aapsa, Navachetana, Azim Premji Foundation adopted schools. Has given support to set-up several rural schools in the areas surrounding Chandapur and Ramnagar. Setting up of Laboratories in 20 Government & aided Kannada medium high schools in Bangalore (Vijaya high school jayanagar; Community center, Jayanagar; Vasavi school, V V Puram; Bommanahalli; Madivala; Yediyur; Sharada school, Byatarayanapura; ) & conducted workshop for teachers; Held inter-school Science Exhibition competitions across Bangalore.
