The foundation stone laying ceremony for the Advanced Polymer Design & Development Research Laboratory (APDDRL), an exclusive R&D campus of CIPET, and a Plastics Recycling Unit (PRU) was held in Bengaluru.

I thank the Govt of Karnataka for alloting 5 acres of valuable land in Devanahalli for the CIPET APDDRL in Bengaluru. It will take about 1.5 to 2 years for the construction of the building to be complete. However, I will ensure that the CIPET classes & labs start in a temporary campus within 100 days of being allocated a temporary location in Bengaluru.

India has a growing demand for polymer & plastic engineers and technicians which is not being met. The Bengaluru CIPET will train 500 PG & PhD students and about 5000 technicians (skilled manpower ) per year.

I also announced a 13 lakh MT Urea plant for Karnataka which will be built on a PPP model with an investment of around Rs 6,000 crores. The location of the Urea plant will be close to the Dabhol-Bidadi gas pipeline and the Urea plant will be an anchor consumer for the gas pipeline. The Department of Fertilizers is conducting a preliminary survey and will visit all identified towns (Dharwad or Davangere or Vijayapura) to finalize the location soon.

Shri Rajnath Singh, Shri Siddaramaiah, Shri RV Deshpande, Shri R Ashok, Shri PC Mohan, Shri P Munishamappa and senior officials of the ministry were present.
