To upgrade the infrastructure of the city he was active in the commencement of projects like International Airport, Metro, Flyovers, among others. During his term as the Union Minister of Urban Development, a policy called the National Urban Transport Policy was formulated where settlements with more than 10 lakh people in them would have metros.

  •  Bangalore Metro was the first Metro rail project in India commissioned with 750V DC Third Rail on Standard Gauge.
  • As a member of National infrastructure task force, he ensured inclusion of Bangalore in the Golden Quadrilateral highway project thus connecting Bengaluru to the national highway network.
  • As the Minister for Civil Aviation he signed the MoU with JH Patel in 1999 for International Airport. It was due to this MoU that the International Airport project came into existence. He also played a major role in the up gradation of HAL airport.
  • He was instrumental in bringing in substantial funding for flyovers via HUDCO.
  • Shri Ananth Kumar has been urging both the State as well as the Union Government to set up a Suburban railway service based on the lines of Mumbai Local Train facilities, which will help in reducing the traffic on roads noticeably.
  • Was responsible for constructing the railway terminal at Yeshwantpur and cable bridge at KR Puram
